Acrylic on Stretched Canvas

Do you ever look at a city at night and see the lights in the tall thin buildings and think about the people living inside each bright tiny shape in the distance? Inspired by the geometries of city buildings, the nature of light reflected out of multi-leveled structures at night, and underground/ above ground grid systems connecting city inhabitants- the underlay is constructed of color blocks- blues, yellows, and reds- an ode to Mondrian and his use of bold color in the Composition. The idea that we can see color more distinctly when white or black is introduced to the frame captivates this piece. Although so much of it is hidden beneath the surface, it is still there- reminding us so much life is hidden in those tiny bright windows in the distance- whether ground level or on the 118th floor- Whatever the architecture dividing the light, hiding color behind it’s surface
