About, the pursuit of happiness
Mary T. Scinto, b. 1988
Irish-Italian American
Mary Triestine Scinto is a contemporary American Painter. A life force of energy in motion fill her paintings known by their bold originality, vibrancy and exquisite use of color. The inspiration of her abstract mark making is rooted in questions of existence, happiness, and human potential. Themes of love, healing, spirituality, and mortality are intertwined in the stroke work through a language of symbolism. Scinto’s paintings challenge traditional ideas of truth, beauty and abstraction. The artist paints as a radical act of liberation and survival; it is an extension of the self, providing an experience of freedom and possibility that cannot be found elsewhere.
Scinto began painting as a therapeutic tool after enduring traumatic life experience in January 2020. Since then, Scinto has painted over 2000 original works of art. Recent publications include Antenna Signals: Emerging Virus, Emerging Artist and Images Magazine with her work Memory Images 2020 interviewed by the Artifications podcast, Interview with New Orleans Artist Mary T. Scinto . and hosted as a guest lecturer in Art Entrepreneurship at Paier College and Fairfield University. She opened her first studio and gallery in January of 2022 in the French Quarter of New Orleans. In the Summer of 2022, Scinto took sabbatical with a private residency in Loches, France and Sardinia, Italy developing a representational body of work for the first time. She has studied painting and drawing at the Florence Academy of Art, Boston College, New Orleans Academy of Art, and Delgado Fine Arts.
The latest focus of Mary’s art is combining realism with abstraction while expanding her collection of large scale paintings, and discovering how to sustain success and authenticity as an emerging artist. Mary is also exploring new ways to share her passion by turning paintings into patterns creating surface and textile designs. In the spring of 2025, Scinto is launching an illustration and design company, Scinto & Co. , focusing on hand painted imagery, both abstract and representational, for surface pattern design licensure, brand and product collaboration. There will be small releases of ethically made products to bring the joy and beauty of Scinto Originals to life new forms such as wearable fashions and home decor.
Scinto has exhibited at the Sunday Shop in New Orleans featured as an artist in residence, 1901 Royal Street, and The Old No. 77 Hotel & Chandlery. She has sold hundreds of artworks independently, now held in private collections internationally. The Artist hopes to have her art reach as many people as possible to experience the same sense of joy, peace & freedom it brings her to create. The Artist currently lives and paints in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Artist Statement
Listening to her inner rhythm, she writes in paint: “beauty as instinct” “come closer” “money cannot save you” “ crimes against humanity” “people over profit” “atomic surrender” “ be the light” “ love is the oracle'' “racism is the pandemic” “born to heal.” The point of inspiration invents a language- symbols of neuronal synaptic excitation, eye of a hurricane, beta waves in dream state, hunger pangs, fear of abandonment, suffocating grief, rejection. When imagination is free to wonder in communion with the artist- visuals surface: hearts, halos, wings, chains, dollar signs, drops of blood, open mouths, gravestones, circles, tears and the hands of time. Staring at colorful chaos, the mind sees a question written in paint: what are you going to do with one precious life? The soul speaks: Paint.
the greatest hope
each work of art reminds you- your time on this earth is very limited- it is a choice what you do or don’t do with it, in fact you can
do anything you want with this one very precious life.
Portrait of a small Artist, 1989
Appreciate you
A brief sentiment of gratitude, to all those who have helped me get to this point.
Not in a million trillion years did I dream
I would be where I am today,
without people like you
I could not see this
life as beautiful
as it can be.
I could not find
a reason to
keep living
a dream
so thank you from every part of me,
for making this kids
wild reality.
